You have to keep in mind that amplified guitars were still something new back then, but the Beatles put it together quite nicely with some damn good songs and vocals, and i suspect their charming good looks.
Today, most everyone is de-sensitzed to loud music and/or amplified guitars, and you most likely will never see this kind of crowd reaction anytime soon. I was 13 when the Beatles powered up.
