| IF you're new...then I would recommend picking up the soundtrack to One From The Heart, but get the one with the blacks trim cover and the street shot of Vegas, Coppola reissued this soundtrack and added the astonishingly good Empty Pockets Suite at the end. ALso, buy the Cold Feet DVD on the web. Tom's biggest role...bigger than Down By LAw or Ironweed, and he's hilarious in it. Nobody seems to know this movie. And of course, watch the entire 12 episode Tom Waits Rockpalast here on you tube |

| Tom is very experimental especially when he collaborates with young new bands.. However....on Orphans, his triple CD set, the Bawlers CD is the opposite of hard metal, especially in his voice. Listen to Tell It To Me, and be amazed. And of course, it's gorgeous. Also check out the unbelievable lyrics in WIdow's Grove. I've never heard anything so profound and deep. |

| But notice that the melodic content sounds classic, like a tune you've heard many years ago..that's what Tom does...he has that light of melody shining on him, a quality that about 20 people every century have...Harold Arlen, Carmichael, Rodgers and Hart, Randy Newman, Smokey Robinson, Stevie Wonder, McCartney, Joanna Newsom, Jerome Kern, Jerome Kern, Frank Loesser, Berlin, and Tom. Ever hear Tom's One From The Heart soundtrack..especially the new reissue with extra songs? He got the acad nom. |

| If I thought the newby was rififi, (translated rough and tumbled) then I'd hit them directly with Small Change or Nighthawks....these two are so saturated with his personality that well, I still remember the night in the seventies listening to bay area FM, and the DJ put on Small Change, and played the whole damn thing with no breaks. Everybody was talking about it the next day.. In 1968 some DJ put on Bitches Brew (Miles Davis)and played a whole side...I was never the same. I'd found my world. |
