If you are actually making a serious statement, I suppose there might be a way to transmit information that doesn't create any wave of photons like our radio transmissions do. However we can't assume anything beyond our knowledge of physics and so far there is no reason to believe they wouldn't be broadcasting a shit ton.

Because we exist on ... ( 2 weeks ago by Fadeux)
Because we exist on the Orion arm of the milky way galaxy. There is no reason for extra terrestrials to look for us here. Our transmissions have only been going into space for 60-70 years. That only allows systems within 60-70 light years to hear them, and it was recently discovered that they actually dissipate long before then, and turn in to noise. It's not an intergalactic super daddy, it's the simple fact that they have NO REASON to look this way.

Carl Sagan was a pompous nitwit who liked the sound of his own voice gushing "billions and billions of stars" and tried to deny god. On his deathbed his wife witnessed the awful screams of Carl " Help ome, no, stop, please, they are coming, those sharp claws, they are pulling me down, down, down,,, to Hail."

There is a quote of Sagan's that I think of anytime a biblethumper comes around spoutin' crap. It helps calm me so I don't go off on them. "It is far better to grasp the universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring"

Why does every damn astronomy video break into a religion vs. atheism battle?? Give it a rest. Neither of you is going to convince the other and astronomy can neither prove nor disprove the existence of a god. Just stop it.
Does the Drake ... ( 1 week ago by cmarcallen)
Does the Drake equation account for the habitable zone of a galaxy? Too close to the center and there's just too many gamma ray bursts flying around. It helps to be in just the right zone of the galaxy to take advantage of metal rich solar systems for terrestrial planets and be far away from all the "action" towards the galatic center.

interesting idea, the problem with the equation is it has to make the assumption earth is a normal planet, its possible that the earth is one in a million... that would still leave millions of ET civilizations, however it would be more likely that they are extremely dispersed. It really depends on how likely you think life is. BTW i really liked Webbs book, I got it for my Bday.

he's referring to one of dwarf planets that were found about that time; Sagan was a proponent of adding them as official planets, this controversy finally ended when astronomers decided to give them a distinct category, which of course Pluto was put into recently.
