This episode is on the Best of Match Game DVD set. Play disc 3 and click on the episode titled 17-1 9/5/80. At the very end Gene is eating a piece of the door and claims that it's "not bad." LOL!

I am not lazy. I respect Charles Nelson Reilly as much as anyone here. You see, sometimes it's okay to use abbreviations, this is the Internet, just because you use an abbreviation doesn't mean your lazy! We use them all the time! In fact, CNR is used on many Match Game sites and tape trading site

I have the DVD set, too. Charles didn't have his toupee on under his cap that day and flashed Gene his bald head saying that he sold his hair. And when the Star Wheel came down for "Super Match," it cracked some of the pieces of the door and Gene had to break them the rest of the way with his foot. Gene said that it "Just makes it a little tougher to clean up. I didn't mean this, but it's alright."

I agree. Gene EXPLODED out of the doors the first go round. (Many people have said that the doors really were stuck and Gene couldn't get out, so he broke them down!) That entrance blew this one out of the water, as great as this one is. (This entrance looks staged too, the original really apppears to be spontaneous.)
I've been trying to find the original for years now, to no avail. Anybody have it? Please post if you do! Gene Rayburn, greatest game show host ever. RIP, Gene.

I agree - Gene was one of the best, and is GREATLY missed! You can see why no one (and I mean NO ONE) has been able to get a successful "Match Game" off of the ground, and it has to do with CHEMISTRY - lighting struck this show once, it won't do it again! As for the "MG '76" episode where Gene bashed through the doors the first time, it happened when Donna Mills (Abby Cunningham from "Knots Landing") made her first (and only) appperances on the show if it helps to get a clip of it!
