Bob Newhart's Abe Lincoln vs. Madison Ave

Uploaded by: wyattmcintyre
Video Description:
For enjoyment, my favorite comedian doing one of my favorite bits, Abe Lincoln vs. Madison Ave. Right here Bob Newhart shows a sort of keen brilliance in his line of thinking that is sometimes hard to miss and yet hard to be seen in the political arena today.

I am glad you liked it, you are right, it is timeless comedy from a witty and thoughtful man. I grew up watching the Newhart Show and had little knowledge of him besides that, so one day a friend loaned me a tape and the first time that security guard called in about King Kong climbing the building Bob found a fan in me. He is just terrific and whether you are Republican, Democrat or Independent we can all find something in this that we can relate to :).

What strikes me about the four Newhart bits I've listened to on YouTube is that there's not one profane word among them. Sadly, Newhart's kind of wit is no longer appreciated or replicated. But this is great. Thanks for posting.

Bob is one of a kind. What I always loved about him was the way he portrayed the boring sappy kind of sad guy but then thru that image he made you laugh your ass off. He was the king of deadpan.

On "Newhart" there was a scene where Mary Frann, who played his wife, was called on to do a one-sided phone conversation and had to do it over and over because she was used to interacting with other actors.
After a number of takes, Bob Newhart finally went up to her and said, "It's not that easy, is it?" Perfect.
