does anyone know danny's setup. It seems like he always uses fender amps, but how does he get his tone? what pedals does he use? it sounds similar.... very similar to john scofield's tone. like exact. so if you know scofields setup that will do as an answer too. anyone?

Remember, the audio gets compressed like hell when it gets converted to .flv format. I personally don't think he sounds anything like Sco. Danny favored single-coils and Sco has always favored humbuckers, primarily the back pickup. Danny's "recipe" with his Fender(s), was first of all, his Fingers + Joe Barden pickups + expertly biased amp. Not to oversimplify but Sco generally camps out on his back humbucker and often uses chorus. Danny hardly ever used effects and doesn't favor pickups.

really good input on your comment... thanks! But It does seem from what i've seen that danny uses "mini humbuckers" the ones that fit into a single coil space. And I guess I'm mostly talking about john sco's a-go-go stuff, because that's my fav. But in this vid at 40 sec. what's that sound change? It almost sounds like his pickups are wired out of phase (to produce a chorus type effect) it sounds sooo scofield a-go-go to me. But you're right about danny's fingers making his tone.

Phenomenal! This guy really understands the guitar - what it can do and how and when it can be done. There is no slack anywhere - ideas just tumble over each other and anything he can conceive he can play. Where the fuck do you get talent like that!!! There must be some way we mere mortals can get a bit.

To try to categorize Danny's playing is like trying to categorize Elvis' fusion of gospel, country, blues, pop and just maybe a touch of jazz. These guys are original talents who take what they like from everywjere and blend it into something new. Definition of genius? To do it right first time without precedent.

hi gattonmaster, niles here, thanks for comments, i am not on comp. very much these days so i have not been promoting gatton on u-tube as much, but always talk about him to people, by the way saw edgar winter and koko taylor at potawatami casino several days ago, edgar winter was really good! so was koko, she is 81! still sings great! as always gatton is king and always will be!
