Well, back then when Dean started out, no one really knew how bad smoking was. My father told me during the 1940s, a teacher said smoking would stop your growth prematurely. My father said, "What about my brother?" The teacher knew my dad's brother and he was over 6 feet as a freshman in HS.
Smoking didn't seem to bother Dean that much though. He was a great singer. But yeah, he really wasn't the drunk he pretended to be. timesobserver DOT blogspot DOT come Please take the "e" of come.

Damn, he was VICIOUS! It's really amazing, comedians today are afraid to really skewer actors. Look at David Spade. Before he was famous, he was mean. Then he got some friends in Hollywood, and how he's afraid to say anything funny.

That's the thing I don't understand. Don was good friends with a lot of these actors so it was okay for him to skewer them. Don was just, simply, the best. That and actors today are far too sensitive.
