well they do have to go with what was seen by the majority of people, i mean 9 times outta 10 the majority is the better movie then some obscure one uve never heard of, not to say that shawshank was an obscure movie, but they had to go with what was appealing to a wide audience, this movie is so great beyond description that its a joke we try to describe the genious that is shawshank, i first saw this when i was 14, im 16 now

My favorite scene is where Red is reading the letter. When he finishes the letter, he reflects a bit. The camera doesn't directly shoot his face, but his profile. He swollows,but it looks like he tries to refrain from shedding tears--of joy most likely.

Yes, he did. He planned to escape from the prison a long time ago, so he knew that he would be out (and left the note under the tree) when "Red" got out from the prison.
