Wilt Chamberlain, Okay. He was great, talented, but never ever did he win a championship unless Bill Russell let up. Those two seasons Wilt won, were the 2 seasons Bill Russell was coach of the Celtics.

Pistol Pete was one of the best players offensively. I understand he's never won, or couldnt play defense, but he was insanely good offensively
The guys you listed Hakeen and Shaq are centers. No way can Pete compare. Dr J is a small forward.

defense was his speciality. his incentive was to stop the opponent. if he himself scored thats great. but it wasnt the goal.
Wilt was a better basketball player than russel. Wilt usually had higher scores higher stats. But it was just that. Wilt was a stat player. Russell was a winner. Russel was part of a team.

The greatest winner in all of sports, sure there is the Jordans, the Magics, but back then less teams which means more depth on each team. That is not saying Jordan, and Magic, etc were not greats, but Russell is the winner all winners are judged by.

What makes Russell so great is that he was able to win 2 NCAA championships in college, come into the NBA and win 11 championships in 13 seasons with the Celtics (he coached two of those years after Red stepped down). He also won an Olympic medal. Plus, he seems to show so much respect for others and the game. This guy was a beast! Who else has won 11 NBA championships besides his teammates that he played with to when he won them?

A players greatness should be measured by his accomplishments. Nobody else led their team to 11 titles in 13 seasons. That is why i consider Bill Russell the greatest player of all time, and why i consider Otto Graham the greatest QB of all time. Both of them played only to achieve their ultimate goal, and it doesn't matter how they did it.
