The England side of the 70s was an interesting one. They failed to qualify for 2 world cups and a European championship but from what I've seen, they played much better football than the 66, 70, or 82 sides.

You speak the truth, my friend. Even the opening minute of England-France '82; leading up to Robson's goal the England players seemed to have relative difficulty controling their own teammates' passes. The '74 side looked like they could really play.
